Special Report:   17th CPC National Congress

The 17th National Congress of the CPC comes at a key stage of China's development, and it has drawn international attention.

Former UN deputy chief, James Morris, says the opening of the Party Congress to the media is a good sign of democracy and opening-up in China.

American businessmen say China's continuing policy of opening-up will provide more opportunities for foreign investors.

Overseas Chinese are following the progress of the congress with interest.

Zeng Zhenjiang, Honorary Chairman of Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce, said, "I think the ideas of a scientific outlook on development and a harmonious society raised by Hu Jintao fit the current situation in China."

In 2006, China attracted more than 60 billion US dollars of foreign investment. With commitment to the reform and opening-up reiterated in Hu Jintao's report to the 17th national congress of the CPC, China is expected to receive more foreign investment in the following years.
