Improving people´s livelihood most important for government

Following Gao, the Minister of Labour and Social Security told reporters a social security system for urban and rural areas will also be set up by 2020.

Tian Chengping, Minister of Labour & Social Security, said, "The current system has its weaknesses. Its coverage is still not wide enough. But the party and the government have paid attention to that, and people are looking forward to improvements. We believe the goal will be reached with efforts from everyone."

The Minister of Education Zhou Ji said over the next few years 50 billion yuan will be provided by governments and educational institutions each year to help poor students. This will benefit more than 50 million students.

Minister of Education Zhou Ji said, "This is another significant decision after providing compulsory education in the countryside. Our goal is to ensure all poor students get opportunities for education."

The minister of Civil Affairs Li Xueju and the Vice Minister of Construction Qiu Baoxing also answered questions.

In his report to the Congress, Hu Jintao called on all Party members to do their best to ensure that all Chinese enjoy their rights to education, employment, medical and old-age care, and housing. And these officials are taking the message to heart. Improving the quality of people's life is vital to Party's efforts to build a harmonious society during this period of unprecedented changes.
