Special Report:   17th CPC National Congress

China has set up more standards and testing organizations to strengthen supervision over the quality of food products.

This is according to the Director of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. On the sidelines of the Party Congress, Li Changjiang dedicated a press conference to quality-related issues.

Food safety has become a major public concern in China after a spate of quality problems. Li Changjian detailed the comprehensive measures taken nationwide since August.

Director of AQSIQ Li Changjiang"We have either sent back or destroyed all illegal imports of fruit, meat product and raw materials. We have also standardized strict labeling of quarantined and inspected export products since September. Moreover, a supervision scheme is almost complete for the wholesale markets of agricultural products."

Li Changjiang said around 80 percent of food manufacturers across the country have been certified. He went on to stress that the goal is to create a nationwide system that covers the entire process, from planting, production, processing, manufacturing to consumption and post-sale services.

The director declared the quality standards of China's own produce will never fall lower than those of imports. He said foreign consumers can be confident when buying Chinese products.
