Bush, Roh stress denuclearization of Korean Peninsula

U.S. President George W. Bush talked Tuesday over the telephone with his South Korean counterpart Roh Moo-hyun on the Inter-Korean summit.They agreed the first and foremost goal is the denuclearization of Korean Peninsula.(Xinhua photo)

The South Korean president has briefed his US and Russian counterparts by phone on last week's summit with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Roh Myoo-hun has confirmed that the DPRK's top leader, Kim Jong Il, is committed to denuclearization.

The two sides also agreed to push for a summit to discuss declaring an end to the 1950-53 Korean War. George W. Bush says he welcomes the summit agreement for a peace mechanism and denuclearization. Vladimir Putin has also hailed the talks and promised to enhance cooperation with South Korea and the DPRK in transport and economic sectors.
