In Thailand, Electricity Generating Company, PTT Public Limited, and the Sepco Asia Group have signed an agreement worth around 50 million US dollars.

The three companies will jointly build in the southern city of Phuket an electricity-generating plant fueled by garbage. The project, which is expected to be completed in 2011, will have a generation capacity of 10 megawatts per year, or 8 percent of the country's total electricity-generating capacity.

Thailand's power demand rises by 7 percent every year. And in a bid to promote its economy and protect its environment, the country also plans to use wind and solar powers to generate electricity.
