South Korea's president is now in Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for a summit with his north side counterpart Kim Jong-Il. It is the first meeting of heads of state between the two countries in seven years. Roh Moo-hyun traveled to Pyongyang by road earlier today.

South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun arrived in DPRK's capital Pyongyang at around noon.

DPRK leader, Kim Jong-Il, greeted him upon his arrival in their first ever meeting.

Earlier, Roh Moo-hyun took a landmark step across the border into the DPRK.

The South Korean president stopped his car and walked across the border in the middle of the heavily fortified Military Demarcation Line.

He is the first-ever South Korean leader to do so.

The line symbolizes over a half century of estrangement between the two countries since the 1950-53 Korean War.

The president says he will make every effort to bring peace and prosperity to the Korean Peninsula.
