Taiwan's attempts to put its membership bid on the agenda of the UN General Assembly session were blocked last week. On Wednesday, China has sounded a fresh warning to the island against any splitting activities.

Spokesman Li Weiyi commented on Taiwan's UN membership raised again by Honduras at the world body's General Assembly session.

Li Weiyi, Spokesman of Taiwan Affairs Office of State Council, said, "We strongly oppose it. The move goes against the will of the international community to recognize one-China. It goes against the UN charter, and UN resolution 2758. We oppose the move and strongly condemn it."

The briefing also touched on the recent dropping of Taiwan from the 2008 Olympic torch relay route.

Li said, "Through months of negotiations and talks, the Beijing Olympic organizing committee demonstrated its sincerity and patience. The Mainland and Taiwan reached a consensus on the torch relay in Taiwan in February. We signed the agreement in March, but in April Taiwan unilaterally denied everything that was achieved. And in September, Taiwan authorities suspended all talks with the mainland on the issue. We can only sigh over all of this. We welcome all Taiwan people to participate in the Olympic activities and share the glory and happiness."
