China, Japan to cooperate in stem cell transplants

The Chinese Marrow Donor Program has signed an agreement with its Japanese counterpart to cooperate in stem cell transplants.

The two marrow banks will seek cell donors for leukemia patients by sharing information about marrow reserves between the two countries.

With 670,000 donors in China and 280,000 in Japan, this could dramatically increase the match rate of stem cells for patients with leukemia.
