125 riot police have begun training for peacekeeping operations in Haiti. They will be the sixth Chinese peacekeeping squad to join the United Nations mission there.

Most of the team are anti-drug trafficking police officers from Yunnan Province in the southwest. The 3-month specialized program includes language training, driving, shooting, and tactics. They will replace China's fifth peacekeeping squad of riot police on the island in December.

China joined UN peace-keeping missions in Haiti in October 2004.
