New trial opens for Saddam aides over Shiite uprising

In Iraq, fifteen former commanders of Saddam Hussein's military went on trial in Baghdad Tuesday. They are charged with crimes against humanity during the 1991 Shiite uprising.
The Iraqi High Tribunal kicked off the third prosecution for their alleged role in killing 100,000 people in the Shiite-dominated cities in southern Iraq at the end of the 1991 Gulf war.
Three of the 15 accused, including Saddam's cousin Ali Hassan al-Majeed, also known as Chemical Ali, have already been sentenced to death in the genocide trial against the Kurds in northern Iraq in 1988.
