Pakistan says it will review a unilateral ban on testing nuclear weapons if India conducts a nuclear test. Pakistan is also suggesting that Australia's plans to sell uranium to New Delhi could start a nuclear arms race in South Asia.

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said assertions by the Indian leadership about the possibility of resumption of nuclear tests are viewed seriously.

Tasnim Aslam, spokeswoman Pakistani Foreign Ministry, said, "Resumption of nuclear tests by India would create a serious situation obliging Pakistan to review its position and to take action appropriate and consistent with our supreme national interest."

Aslam also expressed concern about Australia's plans to sell uranium to New Delhi. She said it could prompt Pakistan to expand its own nuclear arsenal in response to India's possible, stronger nuclear capability.

She said that Pakistan did not want a nuclear arms race in the region. But, she said, at the same time Islamabad was committed to maintaining a credible minimum deterrence.

Last week, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said his country had the sovereign right to conduct nuclear tests. He said the civilian nuclear cooperation deal with the US would not hinder India's right to test.
