Thailand has held a referendum on a new constitution draft. Exit polls on Sunday suggest it will be approved and become the 18th constitution in Thailand's modern political history. This would clear the way for a general election by December. Defenders of the proposed charter have argued that it is the best way out of the political stalemate that led the military to seize power last September.

More than 45 million people were eligible to cast their ballots in Thailand's first-ever national referendum.
