HK police steps up efforts to maintain SAR´s stability

The Hong Kong police have pledged to ensure public security during the festivities marking the 10th anniversary of the region's return to the motherland. For the past ten years, this force has been an important factor in the SAR's security.
Cai Ka-Fai is an inspector at the Hong Kong Police College. Every morning, he puts the cadets through their drills. He's proud to be a policeman. And part of that pride comes from his special role 10 years ago.

Cai Ka-Fai said, "When the national anthem played, I was quite touched, something I had never experienced in life."
Cai participated in the flag-changing ceremony in 1997. After the British flag was lowered, he replaced his Hong Kong Royal Police badge. Cai and his colleagues became the first group of the Hong Kong SAR Police force. He stayed on and rose to the rank of Senior Inspector. The tasks of the SAR police are to maintain public order, fight crime, and protect the lives and property of over 7 million people.
