HKSAR to hold parade in celebration of its 10th birthday

HONG KONG, June 9 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Celebrations Associations announced here Saturday that a parade will be held on July 1 to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

At a flag presentation ceremony held on Saturday for the "Together We Grow, Together We Dream" parade, Cheng Yiu-tong, the executive chairman of the celebrating events committee formed by the association, expressed gratitude to participant and wished for the success of the programs.

According to Cheng, some 5,000 participants will show up in the parade including the "8.1 Parachute Brigade" of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), the PLA Hong Kong Garrison, as well as performers from local and mainland.

Some 10 children who were born on July 1, 1997 will also join the parade together with a huge birthday cake presented by the Hong Kong Disneyland.

Also held by the committee will be a variety show featuring the performance of the "8.1 Parachute Brigade" on June 28 and a fireworks display in Victoria Harbor on July 1 night.
