Postal authorities in Chinese mainland and Hong Kong will release a joint issue of stamps commemorating 10 years since the territory was returned in 1997.

The stamp will be released on July 1 and features China’s national flag, Hong Kong's bauhinia floral emblem in the centre, and the territory's regional flag.

Wording on the stamp to be sold in the mainland is in Chinese, while those in Hong Kong are printed in both Chinese and English.

Hong Kong became an official Special Autonomous Region (SAR) of China on July 1, 1997.

Stamp collecting is a popular hobby in Hong Kong and long lines at post offices across the SAR are likely on its release to get the special postmark.

Its face value in the mainland is 1.2 yuan, or about 15.6 US cents, and 1.4 Hong Kong dollars, or about 17.9 US dollars, respectively.
