China says US plans to build the missile defense shield in Eastern Europe may cause new weapons proliferation problems. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu made the comments on Tuesday.

Jiang Yu said, "China has always maintained that missile defense affects the strategic balance and international stability. It is not conducive to mutual trust between major powers and may cause new proliferation problems."
