Special Report:   HK 10 Years

A red tide has been spotted near Hong Kong. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation department has hoisted red flags on beaches to warn against swimming in the ocean.

At some beaches, the seawater is dark-brown with smelly bubbles floating to the surface. Experts say red tide is the result of an algae which is not toxic and generally rare in Hong Kong waters.

The situation is being monitored and measures are being taken to minimize the impact on marine culture, industry and the public.
