US President George W. Bush has met with Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi at the White House. Wu has led a high-level Chinese delegation for the second China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue meeting.

Wu Yi says the success of the two SED meetings proves China and the United States can increase understanding and mutual trust through frank dialogue, and expand bilateral economic relations.

Bush expressed his congratulations on the progress of the dialogue. He says the United States and China share common interests in many areas and have maintained good communication and cooperation on a number of key issues.

In addition, Bush said he understands the sensitivity of the Taiwan issue. He said he is opposed to any unilateral change of the status quo across the Taiwan Straits.
