China to boost rural development

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has renewed his pledge to boost the country's agricultural development and improve the welfare of farmers. He made the pledge during a 3-day trip to the rural areas of Jiangxi province.

During the weekend visit, Premier Wen Jiabao said the government will continue to raise subsidies for farmers and offer them real benefits.

In Yuanjiashan village, local resident Luo Xunrong told Premier Wen he spent only 3 thousand yuan to buy a new tractor. The other 2 thousand came from a government subsidy. The premier said this kind of subsidy can promote agricultural industrialization and the farming industry, and the government will continue with the policy.
