China confiscates millions of pirated products in 2006

BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhua) -- More than 73 million pirated products were confiscated by copyright administrative authorities in 2006, a spokesman for the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) said here Tuesday.

The confiscated products include more than 18 million pirated books, 1.1 million periodicals, 48 million audio-visual products, 2.01 million electronic publications and 3.79 million software discs, spokesman Yin Xintian said at a press conference. Full story>>

U.S. complaints against China not conducive to solving problems

BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhua) -- U.S. complaints against China at the World Trade Organization over alleged "copyright piracy" issues will not help solve problems, a spokesman for China's National Copyright Administration (NCA) said here Tuesday.

"I don't deny that IPR infringement and piracy occurs in the Chinese market, but that doesn't mean the United States is founded to file complaints against China in the WTO," said NCA spokesman Wang Ziqiang at a press conference. Full story>>

China to issue new plan to protect Olympic logo

BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhua) -- China will soon issue a new plan to protect the logo of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, said a senior trademark official here on Tuesday.

China has been working on a complete set of schemes to protect Olympic intellectual property rights (IPR), said Zhao Gang, deputy head of the trademark department under the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, at a press conference. Full story>>
