Iranian President insists rights on nuke program

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad pledged on Monday that his country would never abandon its rights to nuclear technology, the state television reported.

"The Iranian nation is decisive on acquiring their rights until the end and will not shift an iota, (and) our people are united on their drive," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying during his speech in Iran's southern city of Shiraz.

"Iranian people will continue solidly to reach the summits of perfection on the nuclear issue and will raise their fists to defend their rights," he added.

The UN Security Council passed two resolutions in last December and March this year, urging Iran to halt all enrichment-related and reprocessing activities.

Iran has vowed for many times that it would not abide the UN demands, calling the resolution "illegal."

The Iranian parliament has demanded the government reduce cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency since the UN Security Council issued sanction resolution last December.

On April 9, Ahmadinejad also announced his country became one of producers of nuclear fuel at industrial level in the world, drawing severe criticism from Western countries as well as Russia.
