Wen Jiabao to deliver speech at Japan´s Diet during upcoming visit

Special Report:   Premier Wen visits Japan

China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang has confirmed that Premier Wen Jiabao will deliver a speech at the Diet of Japan next week. Wen's three-day visit to Japan comes at a time when various cultural exchanges are taking place between the two countries.

Wen Jiabao's visit will be the first by a Chinese premier to Japan in eight years and the first speech in the Diet for 22 years. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Qin Gang said three achievements are expected from Premier Wen's visit.

Qin Gang said, "China hopes the visit will establish the content of a mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interests, improve the trade cooperation mechanism, educational and cultural exchanges, and contact between the two countries' youth."

Qin said China and Japan have already reached consensus on overcoming political obstacles to bilateral ties. And he said Wen Jiabao will visit Kyoto as well as Tokyo next week.

In Beijing, the Super live show by artists from China and Japan heralds the start of the Year of China-Japan Culture and Sports Exchanges. Following the show, a number of events will be held in Chinese cities, including a Japanese film festival and a Japanese pottery exhibition.

The Logo of the events went on show for the first time. The letters C and J, combine in a way to express long-lasting friendship between China and Japan.

A series of Chinese cultural shows and exhibitions will also be held in Tokyo starting from mid April.
