Saddam Hussein's former deputy has been hanged. He was executed on Tuesday, the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq war.

Taha Yassin Ramadan was Saddam's vice president, when the regime was ousted four years ago. He was executed for the killings of nearly one hundred fifty Shi'ites in the city of Dujail in the 1980s. Ramadan was convicted in November of murder, forced deportation and torture, and sentenced to life in prison. But the trial court changed it to a death sentence, following an appeals court recommendation.

Ramadan is the fourth man having been executed for the Dujail killings.

The first was Saddam Husssein, who was executed on December 30th, 2006. His half-brother and former intelligence chief Ibrahim, and the former head of Iraq's Revolutionary Court Awad Hamed al-Bandar, were executed in January of this year.
