Ma Ying-jeou, former leader of Taiwan's main opposition party Kuomintang (KMT), established the headquarters for his 2008 "Presidential" campaign on Sunday, according to local media reports.

"Over the past seven years, the ruling Democratic Progressive Party failed to find a solution to fixing cross Strait relations, and continuously engaged in opposition and provocation," said Ma at a press conference Sunday. "If elected, I will definitely be able to reverse such a downward spiral."

Located in a round building in downtown Taipei, the campaign headquarters will be enlarged in the future as election nears, said Chan Chun-bo, vice chairman of KMT.

Ma Ying-jeou resigned as chairman of KMT on Feb.13 after he was indicted on charges of corruption, but he immediately declared for the first time that he would run in the "Presidential" election.
