Chinese FM: Non-interference necessary condition for harmonious world

BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said here Tuesday that mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal affairs between countries are the necessary conditions for building a harmonious world.

Li made the remarks at a press conference held on the sidelines of the annual full session of the Tenth National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature.

He said that Chinese President Hu Jintao and the Chinese government advocate the building of a harmonious society and harmonious world, and China sticks to peaceful development, harmonious development, scientific development and sustainable development, which conform to the trend of the times and to the wish and interests of the people.

In diplomacy, China is committed to promoting peaceful coexistence, equal treatment to each other, mutually beneficial cooperation, and common development, Li said.

China is also committed to pursuing good-neighborliness and mutual trust, resolving disputes through dialogues and other diplomatic means, seeking common security and lasting peace, he said.

Meanwhile, China is committed to boosting exchanges and learning from each other, building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society and enhancing cooperation in the fields, the minister said.

He said the United Nations Charter establishes the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs. According to the provision, the United Nations, as the largest inter-governmental organization in the world, should not interfere in the internal affairs of its member countries.

"It can be imagined and understood that any country should not interfere in the internal affairs of another country," he said.
