China, Japan, South Korea vow to enhance political trust

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has also attended the trilateral leaders' meeting with Japan and South Korea in Cebu. He chaired the conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun.
During the meeting, Wen Jiabao first addressed the importance of maintaining a good relationship between the three nations. He says they should safeguard the regional stability of East Asia. They reached consensus on various issues, including continuing the trilateral leaders' meeting under the 10+3 framework of ASEAN. They also agreed on establishing a high-profile trilateral diplomatic consultation mechanism.
On the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, Wen Jiabao said the Six-party talks are an effective way to resolve the problem peacefully. The talks give all parties concerned an important consultation platform. Shinzo Abe and Roh Moo-hyun also reiterated their commitment to a peaceful solution and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. A joint communique was issued after the talks.
When meeting with South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, Wen Jiabao discussed boosting comprehensive cooperation with South Korea and holding talks on establishing a Sino-South Korean Free Trade zone. Roh Moo-hyun praised China's effort on the Six-party talks and says his country will continue to promote bilateral trade ties.

At the meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the Chinese Premier spoke highly of the improvement in Sino-Japanese relations since Abe took office. Wen Jiabao says China and Japan should make more efforts on issues such as resolving historical problems and building political mutual trust.
Shinzo Abe reaffirmed Japan's One-China policy and says his government will keep Japan a nation of peace. The two leaders agreed to hold more high-level strategic talks in the new year and resume negotiations over the East China Sea. The Premier also accepted Shinzo Abe's invitation to visit Japan this Spring.
