Bird flu has killed again in Indonesia and is picking up speed elsewhere in Asia, with fresh outbreaks in Vietnam and a new human case reported in China.

The latest victim of the H5N1 virus a 14-year-old boy on the outskirts of Jakarta in Indonesia. The hospital says the boy died four days after being admitted with flu-like symptoms. A 37-year-old woman hospitalized earlier this week with the virus remains in critical condition.

And Vietnam reported on Wednesday that the virus had spread to a fourth southern province. The provincial department of animal health says Kien Giang province had become the latest area to be struck by the bird flu virus, with nearly two-thousand ducks killed or slaughtered over the weekend. The birds had not been vaccinated.

Last month, bird flu outbreaks in Vietnam killed or forced the cull of some 30,000 birds. The country has recorded 42 human deaths of bird flu from 93 cases. But it has not reported any human case since November last year.

And in China, the Ministry of Health has confirmed that a farmer in eastern Anhui Province contracted the H5N1 strain of bird flu. He was discharged from hospital on the 6th January after making a full recovery.
