Chinese and Japanese leaders call for further improvements to relations

Senior Chinese and Japanese leaders have called for further improvements to relations. The message came during meetings between President Hu Jintao, top legislator Wu Bangguo, and the Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives, Yohei Kono.

President Hu said the development of friendly cooperative relations between the two countries is important for their people. Not only that, it is conducive to regional and world peace and stability.

He said China is willing to work with Japan to implement the consensus reached by leaders from both countries to promote bilateral exchange and cooperation at all levels. He urged both sides to be sensitive to historical issues, as well as current ones like Taiwan, to inject new energy in the healthy development of relations.

And President Hu hoped that Japan's International Trade Promotion Association would continue its special role in promoting friendship between their people.

For his part, Kono said the association would like to strengthen environmental cooperation and reduce regional economic gaps.

During the meeting between Wu Bangguo and Kono, Both expressed satisfaction with the exchanges between their legislatures and pushed to further strengthen them.
