Russia has criticized NATO members for discussing ways to reduce their dependence on its gas supplies, saying that won't help energy security.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said discussing the issue without Russia will not be productive. He said the interests and approaches of all key players should be taken into account in any deliberations on energy security. The EU now imports over half its energy needs but will depend on outside suppliers much more in 20 years.

Energy security was one of the focuses at the NATO summit in Latvia.
