The Chinese government is sending a charter flight to the Fiji Islands to bring back Chinese nationals affected by the ongoing rioting in Tonga. A Boeing-747 from Air China is undertaking the special mission.

The plane will land at an airport in Tonga's neighboring nation of Fiji, since Tonga's airport is not equipped for this size of aircraft. The Chinese nationals from Tonga will first be required to take a ferry to Fiji, and then board the charter flight to return home to China.

The 21,100 kilometer trip will take 11 hours, and the plane is scheduled to land in Southern China's Fujian province on Thursday. Rioting was sparked in the Tongan capital of Nuku'alofa last week, and the shops of many Chinese nationals were damaged.
