China-Laos political ties

November 2000

Chinese President Jiang Zemin Visited Laos.

The two sides inked a joint statement, confirming the development of comprehensive cooperation.

February 2002

Lao Prime Minister Boungnang Vorachit visited China.

Signed 5 documents, mainly on extradition, economic and technical cooperation.

June 2006

Chinese President Hu Jintao welcomed visiting Lao President Choummaly Sayasone.

October 2006

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met Laos' prime minister Bouasone Bouphavanh.

Both expressed wishes to further promote ties.

China-Laos economic and trade ties

November 1994

Agreement of Passenger and Cargo Transportation on Lancang-Mekong River inked.

2001

Contractual investment totaled US$75 million, covering issues such as building materials, cultivation and pharmaceutical production.

2005

Trade volume hit US$129 million - an increase of 13.6% from 2004.

China's aid project to Laos included ground station for receiving satellite TV programmes, hydro-power station, hospital and road.
