French socialist pick candidate

Members of France's opposition Socialist Party were casting their ballots on Thursday to choose a candidate for April's presidential elections.

In the past the party automatically endorsed its general secretary as presidential candidate. But for the 2007 race, party leader Francois Hollande was eclipsed by 53-year-old Segolene Royal in the polls. and he has to compete with Royal.
