Special Report:   Hu visits 4 Asian nations

Chinese President Hu Jintao has met Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Minh Triet, and the General Secretary of Vietnam's Communist Party, Nong Duc Manh. They've agreed to fully promote bilateral ties while adhering to the principles of long-term stability, friendship and overall cooperation.

The top leaders of China and Vietnam discussed relations between their two parties and countries. They also looked at major international and regional issues of common concern.

Chinese President Hu Jintao said China values strong bilateral relations and will work with Vietnam to further step up ties.

President Hu then proposed a four-point blue-print to guide the further development of bilateral relations.

The first point safeguards Sino-Vietnamese friendship by strengthening high-level contacts and increasing mutual political trust.

The second stresses equality and reciprocity in terms of common development and prosperity. These should form the basic principles for expanding economic and trade collaboration, pushing forward cooperation in bid projects, and strengthening multi-lateral economic cooperation in international bodies such as the World Trade Organization. Also on the agenda is the need to work towards creating a China-ASEAN free trade zone.
