China has launched a national campaign to improve the transparency of hospitals across the country. The Ministry of Health has released a timetable outlining how the public will be informed about the finances and other important affairs of medical institutions by the end of 2008.

The ministry says the primary concern of the move is to let patients understand the exact details of their expenditures. The ministry emphasizes it's hospitals' responsibilities to provide patients with accurate reports indicating how their money is used. Hospitals are also required to offer patients copies of their medical archives.

The ministry also demands hospitals across the country let their employees become more involved with internal management. Hospitals are being asked to inform their staff about the decision-making process, personnel changes, money flow as well as the annual budget planning. Important financial and executive information of all Chinese hospitals will be posted on the official website of the Chinese Ministry of Health.
