At least eight people have been killed and about 20 others wounded when mortar shells landed in a crowded Shi'ite neighborhood of Sadr city in Baghdad.

Witnesses say the mortar rounds shelled a soccer field as a game was being played. Sunni Arab insurgents battling US forces and the Shi'ite-led government struck Sadr City in the past with car bombs and mortars. Mortar rounds also rocked the Sunni district of al-Azamiyah in northern Baghdad. One person was killed and 20 others injured. Police said twenty-nine unidentified bodies were discovered in different neighborhoods across the capital Wednesday. Meanwhile, in a village near Muqdadiya gunmen killed four relatives, two of them policemen.
