"National Year" deepens Sino-Russian partnership

Following the Year of Russia in China, 2007 will usher in the Year of China in Russia. The theme years are part of efforts to deepen the Sino-Russian partnership. Richard Mullins has more.

Graceful ballet-dancing, heart-stopping opera acts and delightful folk songs the Year of Russia in China has been an awe-inspiring showcase of Russian culture.

It follows a decision made last year, which saw the two countries agreeing to hold the Year of Russia in China in 2006 and the Year of China in Russia in 2007. This, to promote better understanding between the two countries.

Chinese observers believe that the events so far have played a big part in building stronger bilateral ties.

Ji Zhiye, vice president of China Inst. of contemporary Int’l Rel. said, “The most important effect is that people from both countries learn more about each other. And understand that cooperation will benefit both countries by deepening mutual trust. Only mutual trust and benefit can bring the two countries closer.”
