Today marks the 95th anniversary of the Revolution in 1911, which first broke out in central China's Wuhan city. The revolution ended more than two thousands years of feudal rule in China. In Wuhan on Monday, people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits held a memorial to commemorate the event and the people who died.

The 1911 revolution, also called the Xinhai Revolution overthrew China's ruling Qing Dynasty. The revolution began with the armed Wuchang Uprising and then spread as a republican insurrection through the southern provinces. It culminated with the abdication of the Emperor after lengthy negotiations between the emperor and Republican forces.

Monday's memorial ceremony brought 200 guests from Taiwan, together with even more mainland officials and scholars. A series of activities will be held over the next few days in Wuhan, including seminars and visits to thirty -five famous historical sites.
