With the deadline to halt uranium enrichment approaching on August 31, Iran still has shown no sign it will act. It denies the charge of using uranium to build atomic bombs, saying that it wants only to generate electricity. The U.S ambassador to the United Nations, John Bolton, has said that if the U.N Security Council fail to act over Tehran's nuclear program,Washington is prepared to act independently with close allies to freeze Iranian assets and restrict trade.Iranian government spokesman Gholamhossein Elham says that those remarks are an obvious insult to the Security Council.

Shrugging of the threat of sanctions, Iran says such a move would propel already high oil prices and hurt economies in industrialised countries more than Iran.
