Not all couples were widowed. This is Wen Xianping's first marriage.
Wen Xianping, Beichuan Newlyweds, said, "My husband lost his wife in the earthquake. He was very sad. I encouraged him to cheer up. Our personalities match very well. As a wife, I know I should take care of his life and his psychological happiness."
The Beichuan government organized the wedding and in some cases, played matchmakers.
JIN Dazhong, Mafistrate, Beichuan Couty, Sichuan Province, said, "It's not easy for many of these people to decide to marry again. So we helped some of them to find the right person and provided psychological consultation to ease their uncertainties. I wish them a happy marriage."
Families and friends share the joy of the occasion.
Chen Deping, Gather of Newlywed, said, "I wish them a sweet start, good luck at work, and to spend the rest of their lives together."
The next stop is the holiday paradise Hainan Island for the honeymoon. Once again, courtesy of the Beichuan government.
"It's hard to connect these couples with a disaster. But it is indeed last year's earthquake that brought them together. Tying the knot means so much more than marriage. It means living and not just surviving. And sharing the occasion like this shows that love is reborn in Beichuan."
