Miliband said, "There has been some action, there needs to be more. And it is action that will be the basis of confidence and cooperation."

The Pakistani Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said it was imperative to defuse the tension. He said Pakistan wanted peace in the region and would not compromise its integrity.

Pakistan-India tensions were heightened when India accused Pakistan-based militant groups of involvement in November's Mumbai attacks, which killed more than 170.
