Heavy snow has hit many parts of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as a major cold front moves into the region. In contrast, southern China has seen rising temperatures.

Heavy snow has hit many parts of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, as a major cold front moves into  the region.

In Xingjiang, 25 centimeters of snow have fallen so far. Transport authorities have implemented an emergency plan to get rid of the snow and ice on roads. Heavy snow has also hampered air traffic, with Tacheng Airport in Xinjiang closing temporarily.

Meanwhile, fog has surrounded parts of southwest China since Friday morning. With visibility of just over one thousand meters, traffic there has been slightly affected.

Warm weather is expected to dominate southern China until next Tuesday.
