24-year-old, Guo Jingyi, has just signed up for her VIP card. And she is excited as she just received her first Barbie doll last year from her mother as a birthday present.

But the massive 3-500-square-meter-store opening comes as the global economy is in crisis.

However, promoters of the Barbie brand are confident, that the doll will ride out the rough times.

Richard Dickson, general manager of Senior Vice President, Barbie brand, said, "The truth is that the Barbie Brand is going into its 50th year of legacy. And you can imagine during those 50 years there's been lots of political turmoil and ups and downs in the economy and life has progressed as it always does and Barbie's been there. And Barbie will always be there. And so we're excited about our future, despite the fact that there are difficult times. The truth is, the Barbie brand is a happy brand, moms and dads are always looking to please their little girls."
