Analysts say a two percent rise in the transport sub-index in Taiwan stock market on Wednesday is a sign that Taiwan has more to gain from cooperation.

But thousands of demonstrators led by the DPP did not support the negotiations. A look at history shows, however, cross-straits relations have always developed along with different political stances.

The mainland proposed the three direct links thirty years ago. Now with the new agreements on travel, postal services, and trade, prospects for direct cross-strait contact and reciprocal exchanges are better than ever. And the trend is likely to grow as the people make use of the benefits.
