71-year-old Wu Ying is probably not the best hip hop dancer in China, but she is certainly one of the oldest. Together with 30 other senior citizens from Beijing, Wu is introducing hip hop to an older generation.
Unlike most retired Chinese, 71-year-old Wu Ying is not content with the slow speed of "Taichi" or Peking opera.
Instead, she has started a career out of hip hop. Over the past four years, Wu and her team have performed all over China and collected dozens of awards. They call themselves hip hop grannies.
Wu Ying said, "We like music that's like sunshine, opens people up, encourages people to embrace the world, the sky and nature. "
Wu had no idea what hip hop was until 2003. She fell in love with the funky music and unconstrained movements when she was watching a nationwide hip hop contest on TV.
