China´s trade promotion council to open representation office in Costa Rica

Costa Rican Minister of Commerce says his country is working with the Chinese "to establish an agreement for the mutual protection of investments."

Marco Vinicio Ruiz, Costa Rican Commerce Minister, said, "We are exploring agreements in vital areas such as sanitation and the commercial exchange of agricultural and animal products. I think we are going to move forward with confirmation of a feasibility study for a free trade treaty between both countries."
According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, trade volume between China and Costa Rica reached 2.1 billion US dollars in 2006. 87 percent higher than that of the year before. The trade volume between the two sides witnessed a 65 percent rise in the first half of this year.
