Chinese mainland slams Chen Shui-bian´s independence remarks

Former Kuomintang party leader Ma Ying-Jeou questioned Chen's logic.

Ma Ying-Jeou, said, "We don't understand why Chen said that. Why is there a need for independence? But sometimes he forgets what he says. So we'd better wait and see exactly what Chen wants to do."

Taiwan's stock market fell 3.7 percent on Monday, the largest single-day drop in nearly two years reflecting a lack of investor confidence.
