People continue killed in Iraq

Meanwhile,in the north eastern town of Baqouba, at least 36 suspected militants were detained during a raid in and around the town.

Iraqi police also found the bodies of 16 men who had been tortured and shot before being dumped in various parts of the city.

The dead were taken to the mortuary in Baqouda where relatives came to identify them.

Ibrahim Dhahi, relative of victim said, "The Iraqi government is in charge of the state, in charge of the law and responsible for setting up order and protecting those poor people, and yet gangs stormed their homes and took them as captives. And as you see they are still handcuffed."

In Kirkuk, a city north of Baghdad, a police colonel survived an assassination attempt when a suicide bomber blew himself up.

Two of the colonel's bodyguards were killed in the suicide bombing and three were wounded.
