Many of the CPPCC proposals to boost China's development have now been listed in the country's 11th Five Year Development Program. Li Na takes a closer look at how CPPCC members weigh their responsibility in building a harmonious society, as well as their achievements so far.
CPPCC members say they have held several discussions on the relationship between the CPPCC, and the idea of building a harmonious society. Their conclusion is that the two share many similarities, from aspects like the nature, function, and aim.
CPPCC member Prof. Deng Weizhi said: "The CPPCC includes representatives from all sectors of the society. Not only CPC members, but also members of the other 8 non-Communist parties, and other organizations. And the idea of building a harmonious society, is closely uniting people from all walks of life."
This sociology professor says the goal of building a harmonious society strengthens the bond between the CPPCC and people from all walks of life. Last year the CPPCC received over 3-thousand proposals reflecting the suggestions of the public from various sectors. He says this reflects how well the people's opinions can be expressed.
The CPPCC includes intellectuals and talents from all walks of life. CPPCC members from various cultural fields say the idea of building a harmonious society will help to invigorate the country's development.
CPPCC member Wang Meng said: "The idea of building a harmonious society plays an important role in the country's development. It sets a goal. And it dissolves the negative impact of the conflicts at the beginning of the 20th century. Especially to handle well the newly appearing discording elements in society. And finally to maintain a stable and united, society with excellent communication. And also to ensure orderly reform and sustainable development."
The CPPCC has taken many measures to promote the building of a harmonious society. Their research shows narrowing the gaps between the rich and poor is one of the major tasks in building a harmonious society.
A better and more rational allocation system of the social wealth is one way to cure the problem. Aiming to achieve this goal, CPPCC members have put forward many proposals. And they are heartened to see that many of their proposals have been listed in the country's 11th Five-Year development program.
CPPCC member Wang Jianlun said: "The most urgent task in this field is to ensure life's necessities for those with low income. In Premier Wen Jiabao's work report, we see that it regulates the lowest salary standard. That's a good sign. Also, we proposed to enlarge the middle-income group. And for those with high income, efficient taxation measures are necessary. And with these measures, we can relocate the wealth to the needy."
The harmonious development between human beings and nature is another pressing topic being discussed among CPPCC members. Many proposals press for a concerted campaign to cultivate the idea of environmental protection. This, along with a push to to build a lifestyle that promotes the conservation of energy -- and the building of an environmentally-friendly society.
