Football (Soccer 美语)
Football is an eleven-a-side field game. The object is to score goals. The team may be divided into several sections-goalkeeper, defensive players, midfield players and offensive players. Football is called soccer in the United States.
Modern football is a sport that was devised by the English. It is the national sport of England. It is played on every continent but is particularly strong in Europe and South America. It is the most popular spectator sport in the world.
Football is played outdoors on a grassy pitch about one hundred and five metres long and seventy metres wide. At each end there is a goal 2.44metres high and 7.32metres wide. The pitch is divided in the middle by the half way line. There is a center circle from which the game begins, and a penalty area around each goal. The game is played with a round ball made of leather or plastic.
Football is also played indoors often with five players on each side. It is the fastest growing sport among children in the USA. It is played by both boys and girls.
Football requires speed, balance, stamina, agility, flexibility and coordination, Individual ball skills are important as well as the ability to play in a team.
足 球
足球是以十一人为一方，在户外场地上进行的球类运动，目标是射门得分。一个队可分为若干位置——守门员，防守队员，中场队员和进攻队员。足球在美国称作“soccer”。
现代足球是英国人开创的一项球类运动。它是英国的国球。现在每个大陆都在从事这项运动，但在欧洲和南美洲特别强大。足球是世界上观众最多的运动项目。足球是户外运动，在草皮场地上进行，大约105米长，70米宽，在两个端线上各有一个2.44米高，7.32米宽的球门。场地由中线分开，中线上有一个中圈，比赛在这里开始，而且围绕每一方球门前有一个罚球区。足球是用皮革或造革等材料制成的圆球。

Amateur Boxing
Boxing in the sport of fighting with gloved fists. It is both an amateur sport and a professional sport. The object is to score more points than the opponent by out-boxing him, or by stopping him with a knockout punch. At the same time, the boxer tries to avoid being hit.
Boxing matches take place in a three-roped ring. Amateur bouts consist of three three-minute rounds. Boxers wear gloves. Their equipment also in-cludes a head protector, gum shield, shorts and a foul-proof cup. Boxers fight according to weight divisions.
Bare hand boxing as an art of self-defense was practiced by the Greeks and Romans, and was included in the ancient Olympic Games. In 1867 in England, the Queens berry Rules were introduced to govern boxing matches with gloves. In 1880 the Amateur Boxing Association was founded in England. In 1946 the Amateur International Boxing Association was founded.
Dominant nations in world boxing include the United States, Cuba Britain and Russia. Boxing requires strength, stamina, speed, agility, toughness, coordination, determination and courage.
业 余 拳 击 运 动
拳击是戴（拳击）手套进行格斗的运动项目。它既是一项业余的，也是一项职业的运动项目。比赛的目标是要比对方获得更多的分以战胜对方或者将对方打倒而结束比赛。与此同时比赛者（拳击运动员）要力图避开对方的打击。
拳击比赛在由三条绳围绕的拳击台上进行。一场业余拳击比赛有三回合，每回合三分钟。拳击运动员要戴（拳击）手套。其他的用具包括：头盔，护齿，运动短裤和护裆。拳击运动员的比赛按体重分级。
赤手的拳术，古希腊人和古罗马人当作一种为自卫而习练的技艺，而且被列入古代奥运会。1867年英国采用了昆斯伯里拳击规则，（比赛者）要戴（拳击）手套进行比赛。1880年业余拳击联合会在英国成立。1946年国际业余拳击联合会成立。
在世界拳击运动中属于领先地位的国家有美国，古巴，英国和俄国。拳击运动要求（运动员）具有力量，耐力，速度，灵活，凶猛，协调，果断和勇敢等素质。
