BANGKOK, April 28 (Xinhua) -- A 42-year-old Thai woman returning from Mexico is suspected to have infected with swine influenza and being quarantined at the Chulalongkorn Hospital as the first suspected swine flu case in Thailand, local media quoted sources as saying on Tuesday.

According to The Nation's website, the undisclosed sources said the woman returned from Mexico early this month and has been hospitalized Tuesday.

The outbreak of the swine flu has killed almost 150 persons in Mexico, and more people have been infected in the United States, Canada and Europe. The World Health Organization (WHO) raised its pandemic alert level for the new flu strain to Phase 4, indicating a significantly increased risk of a global outbreak of a serious disease.

The Thai Public Health Ministry on Tuesday proposed to the Cabinet a plan to handle swine flu prevention measures, Deputy Public Health Minister Manit Nopamornbodi said earlier.

Manit said the ministry propose to set up a committee, chaired by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, to monitor the problem and be authorized to order a response and issue instructions to concerned agencies in order to implement swine flu prevention measures effectively and in a unified manner.
